Zac Efron and Nikki Blonsky sat down with the Herald Sun, Australia’s most popular newspaper recently. I was glad to see how humble Zac is about getting so much recognition and excitement from his fans.
The article is really long so I only included Zac’s interview. Here’s Zac’s part of the article:
19-year-old, Zac Efron, is now the recipient of Beatlemania-style screams and adulation in the US.
Efron said he wasn’t blase about his newfound fame.
“I’ve lived on both sides of the tracks,” he said.
“My whole life was sans screaming girls.
“I didn’t have that growing up. It was, if anything, the opposite, so I can sense that this is here for now and could very well be gone tomorrow.
“Definitely take every scream with a grain of salt,” he said.
A flurry of controversy erupted over production of Hairspray when a gay activist called for a boycott of the film because of John Travolta’s casting as Tracy Turnblad’s mother, Edna.
The activist alleged Scientology — of which Travolta was a member — was homophobic.
