Last week was a busy one for the stars of High School Musical 3. They attended two different premieres in Australia. Monday they were in Sydney and Tuesday in Melbourne. Zac Efron, Vanessa Hudgens, Ashley Tisdale and Kenny Ortega spent last Sunday taking in some of the sights around Sydney on a water taxi tour. Monday started with a photo shoot overlooking the beautiful Sydney Harbor then some press interviews before heading back to get ready for the premiere.
Disney had provided extra security around the theatre and requested extra help from local police. Since the big HSM3 fans were in school on Monday, there were lots of mothers staking out their territory along the red carpet up to 12 hours before the event. Then, as school was dismissed the young fans arrived and joined their moms. An estimated 1500 people showed up for the event at the Greater Union George Street Cinemas in Sydney. The stars introduced the movie but didn’t stay to watch it. The girls headed off for a little retail therapy while Zac closed down a gym so he could workout in peace.
Later Monday evening the flew to Melbourne. Tuesday was another day filled with interviews in preparation for the premiere at the Village Jam Factory. The Melbourne crowd was estimated at 2 times the size of that in Sydney. The 3000 screaming fans showered the stars with flowers, gifts and cards as they made their way down the red carpet. There were lots of complaints after the event that the stars were ingrateful and just handed the gifts off to handlers who wisked them away. The stars were busy signing hundreds of autographs, and that is hard to do with your hands full of gifts. High School Musical 3 officially opens down under on December 4th.
